What Should I Wear to an Asian Massage?

The focus of an Asian massage is to balance the body’s energy and promote overall wellness. The term refers to different styles of therapeutic body work such as Korean, Shiatsu, Thai, and Tui Na. Here are some ways to help you get ready for your massage session at Garden Retreat Spa:

Preparing For The Appointment

Arrive at your appointment clean and showered if possible. Avoid wearing heavy fragrances or strong-scented products as they can be overpowering during the massage. We recommend eating a light snack before your visit and staying hydrated throughout the day to minimize dehydration. Avoid drinking alcohol beforehand because it can interfere with the relaxation effect of the massage. If you have any questions about the process or want treatment on specific areas of your body, communicate those desires with your Garden Retreat Spa massage therapist before and throughout your massage. For sensitive areas or injuries, inform the therapist before starting the session.

Dressing For Your Massage

Wear comfortable, loose clothing that can get oily to your appointment. Even if you remove all your clothing for the massage, oils can still get onto undergarments and clothing as you get dressed afterward. Sandals or slip-on shoes are recommended for your footwear. Pick an outfit that you can easily take on and off.

If you have longer hair, pull it away from your neck and shoulders. This helps your massage therapist access the areas of your body they need and prevents your hair from getting oily. If you prefer to keep your hair untouched, tell your massage therapist you’d like them to stay clear of your scalp. Remove makeup to avoid smudges and to allow massage therapists access to your facial muscles.

You can wear as much or as little clothing as you would like during the massage. Because this service is about your personal relaxation experience, your dress is dependent on your comfort level. Many people dress down to their underwear for their first session, while others may choose to take off everything. Any area not being worked on will remain covered by a towel or sheet during the session. If you choose to keep most of your clothing on, discuss it with your massage therapist so they can tailor the massage to your comfort.

Wrapping Up The Session

At the end of the massage, stand up and get dressed slowly while sipping water and taking deep breaths. This helps keep you calm and relaxed while also rehydrating your body. We want your experience at Garden Retreat Spa to be deeply relaxing, so you should not feel rushed before, during, or after the session.
